MURPHY’S LAW

This motion graphic piece aimed to display how film has an effect on the experiences within graphic design, through the development and merging of a variety of animated sequences that take inspiration from a specific filmmaker.

The filmmaker in question is Gaspar Noé, a Franco-Argentine writer, director, producer and editor, creator of such films as Irreversible, Enter The Void and Climax. His work is not only known for its reactionary, provocative and violently stylistic stories, but also for its typographical sequences which have become iconic within the film industry.

Much of what Noé has created throughout his career has gone on to inspire many visual projects within the mainstream, from music videos, graphic design, photography and even other films. There have even been cases before where individuals have ripped-off or borderline-plagiarised visuals he has created in the past.

While this piece aims to explore films impact on the experience of design, it also looks into where inspiration comes from, the lines between imitation, inspiration and original works, and one’s journey in finding originality within what inspires us.
